UK-based multi-disciplinary software company NewRedo has made a significant contribution to education in rural Ghana with the donation of laptops and a projector to Salo DA Basic School. The equipment was formally presented to the Chief and Queen Mother of Salo, a small community in the Anlo District of the Volta Region.
This generous donation marks the beginning of NewRedo’s ambitious initiative to bridge the digital divide in Ghana’s underserved communities. The laptops and projector will directly support pupils at Salo DA Basic School, many of whom have had limited or no previous access to modern technology.
The donation forms part of NewRedo’s flagship corporate social responsibility programme and represents the launch of AfeTech, the company’s newly established non-governmental organisation. The name AfeTech combines ‘Afe’ (meaning ‘home’ in the local Ewe language) with ‘Technology’, reflecting the organisation’s mission to bring technology into the homes and communities that need it most.
AfeTech’s vision extends beyond simply providing equipment. The organisation aims to supply both technological resources and skilled human support to help young people across Ghana develop a genuine interest in technology and its possibilities.
A key component of the initiative is the introduction of Code Club to Ghana, a popular UK-based programme designed to teach coding and development skills. This will target students from the basic level right through to the senior high level, potentially transforming how young Ghanaians engage with technology and opening new pathways for their futures.
The Code Club initiative aligns perfectly with the Government of Ghana’s ambitious One Million Coders programme, launched by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations. By bringing coding education to rural communities like Salo, AfeTech is directly contributing to the government’s vision of developing one million skilled coders across the nation, ensuring that this national digital transformation reaches even the most remote areas.
The successful donation ceremony, held last month, represents just the first step in what promises to be a transformative journey for communities across Ghana, as NewRedo and AfeTech work to ensure that geographical location no longer determines access to technological opportunities.
