ASA Savings and Loans Limited has extended financial support to 50 brilliant but needy students in the Western Region.
The beneficiaries are within the company’s operational areas of Ahanta West Municipality and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
The initiative, dubbed “Educational Support”, provided each beneficiary with GH¢1,000 to cushion their academic journey.
Richard Nartey, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, explained that the gesture formed part of the company’s long-term vision of investing in human capital.
According to him, education remains the foundation for socio-economic transformation, and private sector organizations such as ASA have a duty to complement government’s efforts in this regard.
He noted that the initiative is not just a one-off donation but an integral component of its CSR framework. “Over the years, the company has consistently channeled resources into supporting critical sectors such as education and health, areas that directly impact communities where ASA operates,” he added.
Mr. Nartey emphasized that as a financial institution that thrives on community trust, it is important to give back in ways that create lasting value.
He further explained that the company’s CSR policy is structured to identify pressing community needs and design interventions that are sustainable. By targeting brilliant but needy students, the initiative ensures that financial constraints do not derail the academic dreams of young people who have the potential to contribute significantly to Ghana’s development.
He urged other corporate institutions to adopt similar models of community support to broaden the impact.
Safiul Alam Mohammed, Western Divisional Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, emphasized that the company that operates 153 branches nationwide has always prioritized giving back to society within its operational areas.
“Our CSR has always been in areas such as health, donations to schools and orphanages, tree planting exercises, among others, and we pray to do more,” he noted.
According to him, ASA also empowers women entrepreneurs by providing loans that help them maintain and sustain their businesses. This, he said, forms part of the institution’s broader mission to create economic opportunities for its clients.
Mr. Mohammed encouraged the beneficiaries to take their education seriously, describing it as a powerful tool that not only transforms individuals but also brings positive change to society.
“Go out there and make your parents, community, and the company proud by making good grades,” he advised.
Francis Gyabeng, Kwesimintsim Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, advised the beneficiaries to be responsible stewards of the support they had received. He noted that the GH¢1,000 may appear modest, but if properly managed, it could go a long way to ease the burden of acquiring educational materials, paying fees, or covering other essential needs.
He reiterated that the company will continue to monitor the progress of its beneficiaries, adding that success stories from past beneficiaries have inspired ASA to keep scaling up its interventions.
Anthony Cobbinah, Circuit Supervisor at the Metro Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES), applauded ASA Savings and Loans Ltd for prioritizing education in its CSR agenda.
He explained that the gesture aligns with the government’s own vision of ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all.
He stressed that the beneficiaries must prove themselves worthy of the investment by excelling in their studies and becoming role models in their communities.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Mildred Pascaline Mensah, an optometry student at the University of Cape Coast, expressed gratitude to ASA for the timely intervention. “This will go a long way to support my educational materials and take care of certain needs. I am grateful for this assistance,” she said.
Oliver Cromwell, also a beneficiary and Level 200 student at the Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, expressed gratitude to ASA for their support.
He mentioned that the assistance will help him with essential needs such as books and other stationery.
In a related development, ASA Savings and Loans Ltd has painted Diabene R/C Basic School and constructed a modern lavatory facility for the pupils in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The gesture, which forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive, is aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions while promoting good sanitation in communities where the institution operates.
According to the school authorities, the support followed an appeal made to ASA for assistance to give the school a facelift.
At a brief ceremony to hand over the project, Mr. Safiul Alam Mohammed, Western Divisional Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, emphasized that education remains one of the company’s core CSR focus areas.
“We believe children learn better in a clean and safe environment. This project is a contribution towards ensuring that pupils at Diabene R/C Basic School study in dignity and comfort,” he said.
Mr. Richard Nartey, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of the company, reaffirmed ASA’s commitment to supporting education and community development across the country. He noted that such interventions are necessary to complement government’s efforts in bridging infrastructure gaps in the educational sector.
“The intervention is one of several CSR initiatives by ASA Savings and Loans across the country, particularly in the areas of education, health and community development” he added.
The Headmistress of Diabene R/C Basic School, Mrs. Vivienne Amouzou expressed appreciation to ASA for the intervention, noting that the school, which has been in existence for 35 years, was in dire need of support.
“We need more classrooms, a better assembly ground, landscaping and additional lavatory facilities, among others. This intervention has given us hope, and we appeal to other corporate institutions to come to our aid,” she said.
The manager in charge of Catholic schools in the Western and Western North Regions, Mr. Emmanuel Kwamena Salia commended the company for the timely support.
“The old block has been transformed into a new one because of the fresh coat of paint. We are very happy and we truly appreciate this gesture,” he said.
He appealed for similar support for other deprived schools in the region.
A Basic Four pupil of the school, Nyame Tsease Godwill, could not hide her excitement, saying: “The new look of the school has boosted my confidence and made me proud of the learning environment.”
