Founder and Chief Executive Officer of P&F Coaching International, Patrick Sassou Abah-Dakou, has launched his much-anticipated book titled Emotional Intelligence; The Game Changer in Leadership.
The publication seeks to enhance emotional intelligence (EQ) among leaders, equipping them to make better decisions and lead more effectively.
A renowned emotional intelligence coach, trainer and leadership expert, Abah-Dakou’s latest work is described as a transformative guide for leaders, professionals and individuals pursuing personal development. The book explores the pivotal role EQ plays in achieving effective leadership and lasting success.
In today’s dynamic leadership landscape, where emotional insight is often as crucial as technical expertise, the book offers practical strategies, biblical reflections and real-life examples to help readers cultivate emotional awareness and relational wisdom.
As a Genos Emotional Intelligence Certified Coach and a Certified Leadership and Executive Coach, ACC (ICF), Mr. Abah-Dakou draws on his years of experience in coaching and corporate training to illustrate how EQ can improve workplace culture, relationships and individual growth.
Key features of the book
“EQ is the ability to identify and understand your emotions and express them effectively,” Mr. Abah-Dakou notes in the book. “An emotionally intelligent person demonstrates self-awareness, appreciates the worth of people in their ecosystem, and also exhibits the ability to make sound judgments and decisions. Openness and honesty about mistakes and shortfalls are also hallmarks of emotional intelligence.”
The 196-page publication comprises 16 chapters, in addition to endorsements, a foreword, preface and acknowledgements.
Among the topics covered are the science and psychology behind emotional intelligence; EQ’s impact on decision-making, communication and team dynamics; as well as stress management and conflict resolution techniques. The book also includes case studies and exercises to help readers build empathy and self-awareness.
Chapter One introduces key terms and concepts of EQ, while Chapter Two delves into the science behind emotions. Chapter Three examines the intersection of emotional intelligence and Christianity.
Chapter Four explores the Genos Model developed by Dr. Ben Palmer and Professor Con Stough. Subsequent chapters cover anger management, the dangers of bitterness, emotional healing for leaders, the importance of empathetic listening and the role of EQ in customer service.
The final chapters address the value of feedback, accountability, gratitude, coaching; and include testimonials from leaders who have undergone emotional intelligence training. The book concludes with a personal tribute to individuals who have contributed to the author’s journey.
Having trained over 1,000 middle- and top-level executives across more than 18 countries in Africa and beyond, Mr. Abah-Dakou emphasised at the launch that leadership is no longer about authority alone.
“Leadership is not just about authority; it’s about connection, empathy and self-mastery,” he said.
“In Africa and beyond, we need leaders who can navigate complexities with emotional wisdom. This book is a toolkit for anyone ready to lead with impact.”
A notable quote from the book adds: “Emotional reasoning is about using the information in feelings (from oneself and others) when making decisions. It involves combining emotional information with facts and technical knowledge, and communicating this decision-making process to others.”
Awards ceremony
The launch event, held in Accra, also featured an awards ceremony recognising individuals and organisations across Africa who have significantly contributed to promoting emotional intelligence and supported the author over the years.
The Business and Financial Times (B&FT) received a special award for being an emotionally intelligent organisation that has championed the EQ discourse through its publications.
