Obiri Yeboah Senior High Technical School (OYESS) in Assin Fosu, Central Region, has begun a week-long celebration to commemorate its 40th anniversary under the theme ‘Quality education: A tool for building a better Ghana’.
The festivities commenced with a health-focused aerobics session organised in collaboration with the National Sports Authority. The event brought together students and staff in a show of unity and commitment to physical well-being as part of the celebration.
Established in 1985 with just 100 students, the school now boasts a population of over 1,800 students and 90 teaching and non-teaching staff. Over the years, OYESS has made significant strides in both academics and extracurricular activities.
In 2024, the school was crowned National Champion in an academic competition and gained further recognition as the first to represent the West Africa Immigration Service Cadets. Academically, it continues to excel, recording a 98 percent pass rate in the 2023 WASSCE, with 17 students attaining six A1s.
Headmaster Evans Jomo Glivey used the occasion to appeal for support from stakeholders, philanthropists and the school’s alumni to help address infrastructure challenges.
“The school has come of age, and there is a need for authorities and old students to come on board to support their alma mater,” he said.
OYESS offers a broad curriculum, including General Arts, General Science, Business, Agriculture Science, Home Economics, and Technical programmes.
Officials from the National Sports Authority also took the opportunity to engage the students on personal development, urging them to avoid teenage pregnancy and to stay focused on their academic pursuits.
