Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has announced a 23-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup in London, with five debutants earning their first call-ups.
Home-based quartet Benjamin Asare (Hearts of Oak), Razak Simpson (Nations FC), Kamaradini Mamudu (Medeama SC), and Kwame Opoku (Asante Kotoko) have all been included, alongside St. Patrick’s Athletic goalkeeper Joseph Tetteh Anang, formerly of West Ham United.
Abdul Aziz Issah and Aaron Essel, standouts for Ghana’s U-20 side at the recent AFCON in Egypt, also make the step up to the senior team. Exciting Danish-based defender Caleb Yirenkyi (FC Nordsjaelland) and Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini (Union Saint-Gilloise, Belgium) round out the list of fresh faces.
There’s also a return for key players Abdul Samed Salis (Sunderland), Felix Afena-Gyan, and Majeed Ashimeru (Anderlecht). Salis is back following a lengthy injury layoff, while Afena-Gyan rejoins the team for the first time in nearly two years.
The squad will assemble in London to prepare for the tournament, which includes Ghana, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica. The Black Stars will face rivals Nigeria in the semi-final at the GTech Community Stadium on Wednesday, May 28, with a place in the final on Saturday, May 31, up for grabs.
