Ibrahim Kofi Sessah, a technician at the Local Government Service, has been granted bail by the Financial and Economic Division of the High Court following his not-guilty plea to three counts of alleged financial misconduct related to the unlawful sale of employment within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The court set bail at a substantial GHS 6.5 million, with stringent conditions requiring two sureties who must justify the amount with landed property located within the Greater Accra Region.
According to the charge sheet presented by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Sessah faces accusations including using public office for profit and giving bribes to influence a public officer.
The particulars of the offenses detail how Sessah allegedly collaborated with Anthony Gyasi (currently at large), an IT Officer at the GES Head Office, to corruptly exploit Gyasi’s position for private gain.
The prosecution contends that between January 2022 and December 2023, Sessah’s Zenith Bank account received a staggering GHS 6,042,600.00 from the unlawful sale of GES appointment letters to prospective teacher applicants, acting on behalf of Gyasi.
Furthermore, Sessah is accused of personally receiving GHS 580,000.00 from approximately one hundred teacher applicants under the false pretense of securing their appointments within the GES.
The court has ordered the prosecution to file all necessary disclosure materials within the next 21 days, providing the defense with the evidence they intend to present.
The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2025, for mention.
