The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, says the region’s hosting of the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration will not only honour Ghana’s hardworking farmers, but also serve as a catalyst for economic growth, investment and regional development.
Speaking at a press soiree in Ho, Mr. Gunu described the upcoming event as “a golden opportunity for the Volta Region to showcase its agricultural strength and attract investors across the agribusiness value chain.
“This celebration is more than an award ceremony. It is an economic opportunity that will bring visibility, investment and growth to our region,” he said.
The 41st National Farmers’ Day, themed: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” is scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025 in Ho, the regional capital.
The minister noted that the Volta Region’s selection to host the event was “a recognition of the region’s vital contribution to national food security and economic prosperity.
“From our fertile lands and vibrant fishing communities to our growing agribusiness sector, the Volta Region continues to play a key role in feeding Ghana and supporting livelihoods,” he said.
He explained that hosting the national event would come with multiple benefits, including an economic boost for local businesses, new agribusiness opportunities and greater attention from policymakers.
“The influx of visitors, exhibitors and dignitaries will stimulate hotels, restaurants, transport operators and trading activities, generating revenue for the local economy,” he stated.
The Minister also pointed out that the event would inspire young people to consider careers in agriculture and help reduce unemployment.
“This celebration will motivate more of our youth, like Tulasi and his colleagues, to venture into agriculture and agribusiness. It’s time we make agriculture attractive to the next generation,” he said.
Mr. Gunu revealed that preparations were already underway to ensure a successful event, with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council working closely with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, district assemblies, traditional leaders, and the private sector.
The week-long celebration will include district and regional Farmers’ Day events, as well as a 24-hour Volta Trade and Investment Fair to promote the region’s products and investment potential.
Mr. Gunu called on residents to embrace the celebration and demonstrate the region’s trademark hospitality.
“The Volta Region stands ready to host Ghana with pride, enthusiasm, and warmth. Let us come together to celebrate the resilience of our farmers and the spirit of unity that defines our region,” he said.
