The Ministry of Food and Agriculture, in collaboration with the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) has announced the minimum guaranteed farmgate prices for selected agricultural commodities.
The announcement, issued on Monday, 29th September, 2025 by its Public Relations Office, follows the maiden meeting of the Producer Price Determination Committee (PPDC), which was held on 11th and 12th September 2025 after its successful inauguration.
According to the Ministry, the guaranteed farmgate prices are as follows: maize – GH¢4.50 per kilogram, rice – GH¢12.50 per kilogram and gari – GH¢10.00 per kilogram.
In practical terms, this means a 100kg bag of maize will be purchased at GH¢450.00 – a 50kg bag of rice at GH¢625.00 and an 84kg bag of gari at GH¢840.00.
“These guaranteed farmgate prices are part of government’s interventions to address the challenges of unsold surplus grains in the market, provide fair returns for farmers, and ensure stability in the agricultural value chain,” the Ministry explained.
Farmers have been strongly encouraged not to sell their produce below the announced prices. Any farmer experiencing difficulties with buyers attempting to purchase below the guaranteed prices has been urged to sell directly to NAFCO, where they will be assured of the approved rates.
The Ministry assured stakeholders that the measures are designed to safeguard farmer livelihoods, protect the integrity of the domestic grain market, and strengthen national food security.
