David Gyamfi Junior is the early standout in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League after the 18-year-old FC AshantiGold attacker scored the season’s first hat-trick on Matchday Two.
Gyamfi Junior’s treble has taken him to the top of the goalscorers’ chart and made him the first player to score three times in a match this season. His performance is one of the main talking points from the opening two rounds.
Five teams remain unbeaten, although Medeama SC have yet to start their league campaign. Their first two fixtures were postponed because they are participating in the CAF Champions League.
Medeama are scheduled to begin their season on Saturday against Vision FC.
Hearts of Oak and FC Samartex are the only sides to have won both of their opening matches. The two clubs therefore remain the only teams with a perfect 100% record after the first two matchdays.
A total of 16 matches have been played so far, with two fixtures still outstanding. Those games mean the early league table and individual statistics remain subject to change.
The matches completed so far have produced 11 home victories, two away wins and three draws. There have been 40 goals across the league, with home teams responsible for 29 and away sides scoring 11.
The figures underline the strong home advantage during the opening rounds, while the unbeaten records of five teams provide an early indication of a closely contested campaign.
However, it is Gyamfi Junior’s goalscoring display that has made the biggest individual impact so far. The FC AshantiGold forward has immediately moved to the top of the scoring standings, while Hearts of Oak and FC Samartex have set the early pace with their maximum points.
The remaining two fixtures will complete the initial set of league results and could alter both the standings and the statistical picture after Matchday Two.
