Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has admitted TP Mazembe executed their counter-attacking plan effectively in the first leg of the CAF Champions League clash.

The Yellow and Mauve head into the return encounter needing to overturn the 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Ghana as they fight to keep their continental campaign alive.

The return fixture has been scheduled for Saturday, September 12, in Lubumbashi, with victory crucial to securing a place in the second phase of the Champions League campaign.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Tanko asserted the return clash in Congo would have been different if the side had taken their chances in the first leg in Ghana.

“TP Mazembe played very well in the first leg. Their organisation was good. Definitely, when you are playing away in the first leg, you have to plan something, and they waited for us and tried to hit us on the counter. It worked well for them,” Tanko said.

“I think, like I said, we created a lot of chances. If we had scored, it would have been a completely different game going into the second leg. But I think we have quality, and they also have quality, so let’s see what happens tomorrow.” He said at the pre-match conference.

TP Mazembe will have the advantage of playing in front of their home supporters, but Medeama will be confident of mounting a comeback as they look to keep their CAF Champions League campaign alive.
