Ghanaian-English right-back Kelvin Abrefa has joined Forest Green from Reading on loan, completing a move that will keep him with the National League club until 30 November 2026.
The 22-year-old defender arrives after beginning the season with Reading, where he made his senior breakthrough after progressing through the club’s youth system. Abrefa joined Reading’s academy at under-18 level in 2021 before moving to the club’s under-23 side and then into the senior squad in July 2022.
Abrefa has made one appearance in Premier League 2 during the 2026-27 campaign, starting the match and playing 62 minutes. He has not featured in Reading’s League One, EFL Cup or EFL Trophy campaigns this season.
His temporary switch gives Forest Green an additional option at right-back, with Abrefa able to operate in a defensive role on his preferred right side. He is eligible to represent both Ghana and England at international level.
Abrefa’s senior career to date has been exclusively connected with Reading, making Forest Green his first move away from the club. The loan arrangement represents a return to senior football for the defender after his early-season appearance at under-21 level.
Forest Green announced the move on 4 September 2026, with the transfer recorded as a loan rather than a permanent deal. The agreement includes a scheduled return to Reading at the end of November.
The defender is contracted to Forest Green for the duration of the loan, which ends on 30 November 2026.
