Senaya undergoing rehabilitation, expected to return next month

Ghana defender Marvin Senaya is making progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained during the 2026 World Cup and is expected to return to action next month.

Senaya suffered the injury during Ghana's Round of 32 clash against Colombia, forcing him to miss the remainder of the tournament.

An MRI scan in Kansas City confirmed the severity of the injury, and he subsequently underwent successful surgery on his hamstring in Paris.

The 26-year-old has since returned to his club, French Ligue 2 side AJ Auxerre, where he is undergoing rehabilitation under the supervision of the club's medical team. The Ghana Football Association is in close contact with Auxerre to monitor his recovery.

Senaya had been a key player for Ghana at the World Cup, starting all four matches and delivering impressive performances. His displays earned him a place in Opta's Team of the Tournament for the group stage.

His expected return next month will be a significant boost for both Auxerre and the Black Stars, with Ghana set to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in September.
