Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu made his Ipswich Town debut as the newly promoted side began their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland at Portman Road.
Fatawu started the game and played 66 minutes before being replaced as Ipswich went on to secure all three points.
The 22-year-old joined Ipswich from Leicester City on July 21, 2026, signing a five-year contract in a deal reportedly worth an initial £20 million.
Fatawu produced an encouraging display on his Premier League debut, completing all three of his attempted dribbles, creating one big chance and making two key passes.
Ipswich took the lead in the 24th minute when Julio Enciso intercepted a pass before setting up fellow summer signing Emersonn, who tapped home.
Sunderland equalised six minutes before half-time through Nilson Angulo's curling free-kick, but former Black Cats winger Jack Clarke scored the winner in the 90th minute with a low effort into the far corner.
The victory gave Ipswich a winning start to their return to the Premier League after finishing second in the Championship last season.
