Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has explained why he chose to join Championship side Queens Park Rangers, revealing that the club's ambitious project and the chance to work under head coach Julien Stéphan were decisive factors in his move.
The 25-year-old completed a free transfer after leaving Serie A outfit Fiorentina, despite attracting interest from several Championship clubs and teams abroad.
Lamptey said his conversations with head coach Stéphan and QPR CEO Christian Nourry gave him confidence that Loftus Road was the right place to continue his career.
"I'm excited for the opportunity ahead," he said.
"When I spoke to the gaffer and Christian, the project was an encouraging one. The team have ambitious goals for this season, so I'm looking forward to it."
The Ghana defender also praised Stéphan's reputation for developing players, saying the French coach's track record made the decision even easier.
"He's worked with some great players who've gone on to do great things in the game," Lamptey added.
"His resume speaks for itself. He's a great coach, so I'm excited to work with him and learn from him."
Lamptey, who previously represented Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion and Fiorentina, will be aiming to help QPR mount a strong promotion challenge while getting his career back on track after recovering from an ACL injury suffered last year.
