Former Ghana international David Accam has questioned plans to hand Carlos Queiroz a permanent contract, insisting the Black Stars' long-term problems cannot be solved by changing coaches alone.
Queiroz is expected to sign a new two-year deal after winning the backing of the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation following Ghana's Round of 32 exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, Accam believes the focus should instead be on rebuilding the national team's structure from the grassroots before expecting sustained success at senior level.
"I think we need to start building from the ground. That's what we need to get the principles, our methodology. How do you want to play? How do you want to go forward? So it starts from the foundation," he told Joy Sports.
The former Black Stars winger argued that appointing different coaches would only provide temporary solutions unless deeper structural issues are addressed.
"You can't build from the top. When you build a house, you can't build from the top. We need the foundation. The foundation is not there. So no matter the coach who brings in, it won't work. They will try and patch it. You saw the World Cup, they patch it up.
"They use plaster to patch it up. And when it rains, it will sink, it will drain."
Queiroz was appointed on a short-term deal before the World Cup and is now set to lead Ghana's 2027 AFCON qualification campaign if his new contract is finalised.
