Gideon Mensah is on the verge of completing a move to FC Koln, with negotiations now gathering momentum after being briefly put on hold due to his World Cup commitments with Ghana.
With Ghana’s tournament run over, negotiations have accelerated and a final agreement now looks close.
According to reports, the 27-year-old left-back has already given Koln his approval for a summer switch. Because his contract with AJ Auxerre expired on June 30, he would arrive on a free transfer, making the deal an attractive one for the Bundesliga club.
Mensah is expected to fill an important gap on the left side of Koln’s defense. The club needed reinforcements there after Kristoffer Lund departed, and Mensah’s availability at no transfer fee makes him a practical solution as well as an experienced one.
At the World Cup, the Ghana international played every minute of all four matches, underlining his reliability and fitness. That workload, combined with his experience in France and on the international stage, helps explain why Koln moved quickly once the window opened again.
Unless something unexpected happens, the official announcement should follow soon.
