Black Stars assistant coach Roger De Sa has spoken warmly about head coach Carlos Queiroz, praising the veteran Portuguese tactician’s openness and collaborative approach as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz, who recently took charge on a short-term deal following Otto Addo’s departure in March, has brought decades of international experience to the Black Stars setup. His coaching journey has previously included stints with Iran, Colombia, Egypt and Oman.
Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, De Sa, who has worked closely with Queiroz across several national teams, described him as a manager who values input from his technical staff.
“Carlos listens. He doesn’t have to take every opinion, but he welcomes different views," he said.
The Black Stars, currently preparing for their fifth appearance at football’s biggest stage, are stepping up their build-up to the tournament set to be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In Queiroz’s absence, Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Mexico in a friendly on Saturday morning, a result that came as part of their ongoing preparations for the global showpiece.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama. They open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field in Toronto, before a high-profile clash with England on June 23 at Boston Stadium. Their final group fixture comes against Croatia on June 27 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Before the World Cup begins, the Black Stars will face Wales in a friendly on June 2 at the Cardiff City Stadium, as they continue fine-tuning their squad and tactics ahead of the tournament.
