Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey beleives a draw against Algeria is a fair result but has challenged the Black Starlets to win their remaining group games to ensure qualification to the next round.
Ghana opened their U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a 2-2 draw against the North African side on Thursday at the Mohammed VI Football Academy.
Early goals from Yao Gavi Robinho and Eric Adu Gyamfi gave the Black Starlets a bright start.
However, after recess, the Algerians scored two goals before the 70th minute to draw level against a stunned Ghanaian side.
Algeria were later handed a golden opportunity to complete the comeback after being awarded a penalty, but the effort was blasted wide.
Speaking to Asempa FM in an interview, Odartey Lamptey said, "A draw against Algeria is not a bad result, but then the players must improve in the next game.
"For now, the team must win their last two games or win one and draw one to ensure qualification," he added.
The result leaves South Africa at the top of Group D following their victory over Senegal in the other group fixture.
The Black Starlets will hope to secure their first win of the campaign when they play against Senegal on Sunday, May 17, at 16:00 GMT.
