Former Kenya captain Victor Wanyama has officially announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a distinguished career that spanned four different countries and six different clubs.
"Today I announce my retirement from football. Four different countries, six different clubs. A boy from Muthurwa with a big dream, carrying a nation's pride every time I stepped onto the pitch,"** Wanyama wrote on social media.
The 34-year-old midfielder rose to prominence as one of Africa's most accomplished players, becoming the first Kenyan to score in the UEFA Champions League during his time with Celtic. In his retirement message, Wanyama expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey.
"To my family, friends, agent, the fans and the coaching staff that helped me throughout â thank you."
The boy from Muthurwa who dared to dream leaves behind a legacy as one of Kenya's greatest football exports.
