Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President Fred Pappoe has thrown his support behind the federation's decision to dismiss head coach Otto Addo, just 72 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Pappoe characterised the move as a "good decision," citing a visible decline in the team's performance and a loss of tactical direction.
The GFA officially parted ways with Addo on March 31, following a disastrous international window that saw the Black Stars suffer back-to-back friendly defeats: a 5-1 hammering by Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany.
These results extended a four-game losing streak, occurring just months after the team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)âthe first such absence for Ghana in two decades.
“We've all been seeing the performance of the team, and I'm sure they looked at the recent performances and the way things are going, and I want to believe they took a good decision,” Pappoe told Joy Sports.
“The important thing is that they must quickly try to get a replacement to settle in and make sure the team gets ready for the World Cup.”
GFA President Kurt Okraku has promised to name a successor within 14 days as the search intensifies ahead of May's preparatory matches against Mexico and Wales.
