Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu says efforts are ongoing to resolve the Black Queens’ outstanding bonuses ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt.
The minister described the situation as “unfortunate” but noted that the Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, was working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the matter was settled quickly.
“It’s a bit unfortunate, but thankfully it appears that there is some resolution in sight,” Kwakye Ofosu told Joy Sports.
“At least yesterday, I thought I saw them show up for training, which is a good sign.”
He added that the players’ decision to resume training reflected confidence in the ongoing process to address their concerns.
“The delay is not acceptable, but I think that the Sports Minister is working hard with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that it is resolved. Going forward, we should avoid that in future,” he said.
The Black Queens had refused to train for two days after returning from Egypt, where they secured a 3-0 first-leg victory in the 2026 WAFCON qualifier.
Each player is reportedly owed $9,500 in bonuses from their bronze-winning campaign at the 2024 tournament in Morocco.
Following meetings with Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and senior officials, the team trained on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana will host Egypt in the return leg this afternoon, seeking to seal qualification for the 2026 WAFCON.
