The Medical Team of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence held an educational seminar on Monday, October 27, 2025, under the theme “Hydration in Sports” for elite U-19 male football players, referees, and technical staff.
The session, which took place at the Centre’s Conference Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the vital role hydration plays in performance, endurance, and recovery.
Led by Dr Derrick Ofosu Bioh and Dr Christiana Baah, with support from medical officers Augustine Obeng, Abubakari Rabiatu, and Emmanuel Nartey, the seminar stressed that proper hydration goes beyond drinking water; it is about maintaining peak performance and preventing fatigue or injury.
Dr Bioh explained that hydration supports muscle function, regulates body temperature, and enhances recovery, warning that even a two-percent fluid loss can impair concentration and stamina.
Dr Baah urged players to stay hydrated before, during, and after games, and recommended monitoring urine color as a simple guide while discouraging excessive intake of energy or caffeinated drinks.
