Ketu North MP Edem Agbana has firmly stated that players who previously rejected invitations to represent Ghana should not be included in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in Parliament, Agbana said selection for the national team must be based on loyalty and sacrifice, not convenience or opportunity.
“I believe that qualifying to be selected for the Black Stars must come with a certain level of commitment,” he said.
“Every player who rejected a call-up during the qualifiers does not deserve a place in the team as we move toward the World Cup.”
He added that patriotism and consistency should guide national team selection, arguing that only those who stood by the country during qualification should make the final squad.
“We must teach every Ghanaian the value of patriotism and commitment,” Agbana continued.
“Those who sacrificed and helped us qualify should be the ones selected for the World Cup.”
His comments come amid renewed debate over the possible inclusion of dual nationals who previously turned down Ghana, with some fans calling for their reintegration ahead of the tournament.
Players such as Callum Hudson-Odoi, Eddie Nketiah, and Samson Baidoo have all been mentioned in discussions about bolstering Ghana’s squad, but Agbana believes loyalty should come first.
