Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has urged the Black Queens to remain calm and focused as authorities work to resolve their outstanding bonuses ahead of Tuesday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt.
During his visit to the team’s camp at the Erata Hotel on Monday, Ayew shared words of encouragement, reminding the players that he had also faced similar challenges in his career.
"[Unpaid bonuses] is something I’ve been through, so I know how you feel," Ayew told the squad. "Sometimes things get delayed, but they’ll be done."
The Black Queens had threatened to boycott the second-leg fixture over unpaid bonuses of $9,500 each for their third-place finish at the 2025 WAFCON in Morocco. The situation prompted interventions from Sports Minister Kofi Adams and GFA President Kurt Okraku, followed by a direct order from the Presidency for the payments to be made.
Ayew’s visit comes as a major morale boost for the Queens, who are set to train at 5 pm at the Accra Sports Stadium before defending their 3â0 first-leg lead from Ismailia. His presence reaffirmed unity between the men’s and women’s national teams during a tense period.
