The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, on Monday, October 27, 2025, led a delegation from the Association to visit the family of the late former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, to commiserate with them following her passing.
President Simeon-Okraku was accompanied by GFA Vice President Mark Addo, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, and Executive Council Members Samuel Aboabire and Eugene Noel Nobel. The delegation also included the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Adams.
The visit, which took place at the Rawlings residence in Ridge, Accra, provided an opportunity for the GFA leadership to extend their heartfelt condolences and share in the grief of the bereaved family. President Simeon-Okraku conveyed sympathy on behalf of the football fraternity, reflecting on the late former First Lady’s legacy of service, compassion, and leadership.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who passed away at the Ridge Hospital in Accra at the age of 76, served as Ghana’s First Lady during both the military and civilian administrations of her late husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, from 1979 to 2001.
Beyond her role as First Lady, Nana Konadu was a trailblazer in women’s empowerment and political activism. She founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, a groundbreaking organization that championed women’s rights, social development, and community advancement across Ghana.
Her lifelong dedication to public service, advocacy for gender equality, and commitment to national progress left an enduring mark on Ghana’s socio-political landscape.
The GFA leadership expressed their continued support and prayers for the Rawlings family during this difficult period, honoring the memory of a visionary leader whose influence extended far beyond politics and continues to inspire generations of Ghanaians.
