Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, believes the Porcupine Warriors proved their quality despite a narrow 1-0 loss to Wydad Athletic Club in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round on Sunday.
Speaking after the match in Accra, Duku argued that the Moroccan champions were âoverhyped’ and that Kotoko’s performance showed little difference between the two sides.
He maintained that the Ghanaian giants were competitive throughout and deserved more from the encounter.
“The players are so confident. I think that before the game, the Moroccans were overhyped. I did not see much of the difference between the two clubs,” Duku told Luv FM.
“In fact, Kotoko even played better in the second half, but for that glorious chance we missed in the first half, the story would have been different.”
Kotoko’s task became more difficult when their goalkeeper was sent off for handling the ball outside the box, leaving them to finish the game with ten men.
Despite the setback, Duku insists the team’s confidence remains high heading into Friday’s decisive return leg in Casablanca.
“They know that the Moroccans are just being overhyped; they can play with them,” he added. “We did it in Nigeria, and they believe they can still do it. The players haven’t lost hope at all.”
