Wydad Athletic Club assistant coach, Brahim Nakach, has lauded his team’s focus and determination following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second-round tie.
Speaking after the match at the Accra Sports Stadium, Nakach described the encounter as a true contest between two of Africa’s storied football clubs.
“The game was very tough. The players did their best to win the match, and it will make the second leg easier for us in Morocco,” Nakach said. “Asante Kotoko has its history in Africa. We knew it would be very tough, and we prepared for a long time for this game.”
The Moroccan side’s tactical organisation and composure proved crucial, as they managed to keep Kotoko at bay despite periods of pressure. Nakach praised his players’ ability to stay concentrated throughout the match.
“We had to maintain focus from start to finish, which gave us the opportunity to win. We had several chances to score more than one goal, but we respect Kotoko,” he added.
Looking ahead to the return leg in Casablanca, Nakach urged his side to stay alert, noting, “Kotoko can be dangerous away from home. We’ll need the same discipline and focus to finish the job.”
