English-Ghanaian defender Josh Acheampong has revealed that he takes a lot of inspiration from Chelsea captain Reece James.
Acheampong came through the Chelsea academy just like the club's skipper, who marked his 200th appearance in the win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
In the same game, Acheampong also registered his debut senior goal for his boyhood club.
"It’s that inspiration to know you can come through the Academy and play for Chelsea first team," said Acheampong. "I’m so grateful to Reece and all the other Academy players because they’ve given me lots of support," he added.
The 19-year-old England youth international received promotion to the first team last season, signing his first professional contract and featured predominantly in the Europa Conference League as Chelsea emerged champions.
This season, Acheampong has been a regular in Enzo Maresca's team, making four Premier League appearances.
"It was a really good feeling to score. It’s quite surreal. I don’t remember it too much, but just a really good feeling. I don’t really remember much of the celebrations either, to be honest. I need to watch it back!" he said as he scored his first goal for the Blues.
"I don’t score many goals, so to score my first Chelsea goal is really good."
