English-Ghanaian forward Maleace Asamoah scored the only goal as Wigan Athletic defeated Port Vale 1â0 in their League One clash at The Brick Community Stadium.
Asamoah, who started the game on the bench, was introduced at the start of the second half to replace Oliver Cooper and made an immediate impact. Just ten minutes after coming on, the young attacker showed sharp instincts inside the box, firing a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner to give Wigan the lead in the 56th minute.
His goal proved decisive in a tense encounter that saw Wigan play most of the match with ten men following Dara Costelloe’s red card in the 44th minute. Despite Port Vale’s superior possession and chances, Wigan’s defense held firm, while Asamoah’s pace and energy gave fans plenty to cheer about.
The win lifted spirits around the stadium, with supporters praising Asamoah’s decisive contribution off the bench. Wigan will now shift focus to their upcoming League One fixture against Mansfield Town on October 25.
