Hearts of Oak returned to winning ways with a commanding 2-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Sunday, ending a two-game winless run in the Premier League.
The Phobians came into the fixture unbeaten in their last nine meetings with Chelsea and extended that record with a disciplined and efficient performance. Goals from Hamza Issah and Mawuli Wayo sealed the win for the visitors, who remain unbeaten this season.
After a cagey first half, Hearts found the breakthrough in the 62nd minute when a dangerous corner created chaos in the Chelsea box. Hamza Issah reacted quickest, showing great skill to steer the ball into the net and give Hearts a deserved lead.
The game was put beyond doubt in stoppage time when Wayo slotted home a rebound after a header from a corner that struck the post in the 92nd minute.
The result takes Hearts of Oak to third on the league table with three wins and three draws, just one point behind the leaders. For Berekum Chelsea, the defeat ends their recent revival after a win and a draw in their previous two games.
Hearts will return to Accra to face Bibiani Gold Stars next weekend, while Chelsea have an outstanding midweek fixture against the same opponent before an away fixture against Young Apostles. Coach Didi Dramani will be delighted with the result, especially as it marks the first time this season his side has scored twice in a match.
