Swedru All Blacks ended their three-game losing streak with a well-earned 2-0 victory over 10-man Basake Holy Stars at the Swedru Sports Stadium in Week 6 of the Ghana Premier League.
The hosts started brightly and took an early lead in the 6th minute when Benjamin Adjei finished calmly after a swift attacking move. All Blacks controlled much of the first half, keeping possession well and creating numerous chances that kept the visitors on the back foot.
Basake Holy Stars struggled to find rhythm and were often second best in midfield. All Blacks continued to press forward after the break and doubled their advantage in the 49th minute when Hafiz Alhassan pounced on a loose ball inside the box to make it 2-0.
From that point, the home side managed the game confidently, limiting Holy Stars to very few opportunities. The visitors’ frustration boiled over later in the game as they were reduced to ten men following a red card. The defeat marked Basake’s third consecutive loss, raising early relegation concerns, while All Blacks celebrated a much-needed win to move up the table.
Swedru All Blacks enjoyed 59% possession compared to Holy Stars’ 41%, registering 13 total shots with six on target. Holy Stars managed just four shots in total, one of which tested the goalkeeper. The hosts earned four corners against their opponent’s single attempt, with one yellow card shown to All Blacks and three to Holy Stars, alongside the visitors’ lone red card.
Swedru All Blacks will travel to face Medeama next, while Basake Holy Stars will aim to bounce back when they visit Heart of Lions.
