Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says winning Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup tie against Wydad Casablanca in Accra is crucial to his side’s hopes of advancing to the group stage of the competition.
The Porcupine Warriors will host the Moroccan giants at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 19, 2025, for the first leg of their second preliminary round clash.
The return leg is scheduled for a week later in Morocco, with the aggregate winner progressing to the group phase.
Zito, who guided Kotoko past Nigeria’s Kwara United in the previous round, believes a strong first-leg performance is non-negotiable.
“It’s very, very important to us [to win in Accra] because I told them, you will not see Africa until you are in Africa,” he told Joy Sports.
“I cited an example that today, when you go to Dreams FC, everybody [players he reached the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final with] are gone.”
The veteran coach added that the match presents a golden chance for his players to prove their worth on the continental stage.
“This is the opportunity for them to exhibit their talent, and then, as we did on the field, for people to trust them so that they can go into the group stage, and we will do our best there.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 15:00 GMT.
