Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito believes Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca stand as the final hurdle between his side and their goal of reaching the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
The Porcupine Warriors host the three-time African champions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 19, 2025, for the first leg of the second preliminary round, before heading to Morocco for the return fixture next week.
Zito says his side has set its sights firmly on group stage qualification, a milestone he considers the minimum expectation for the club this season.
“This is the target we set for ourselves â that at least we should progress to the group stage, and then we have only Wydad to play against before we go there,” he told Joy Sports.
The experienced coach remains confident Kotoko can build on their impressive first-round victory over Nigeria’s Kwara United, where they won 4â3 at home and 1â0 away in Abeokuta.
“If we beat Wydad in Accra, it means I have another game to play in Morocco, and I have to plan well so that we will not concede over there, just as we did against Kwara,” he added.
Kickoff for Sunday’s highly anticipated fixture is scheduled for 15:00 GMT.
