Italy-born Ghanaian forward Emmanuel Afriyie Sabbi has won his first trophy with Vancouver Whitecaps after clinching the Canadian Championship title.
The 27-year-old started and lasted the entire duration as Whitecaps defeated city rivals Vancouver 4-2 to book their place in next year's CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Sabbi, who joined from Le Havre at the beginning of the year, troubled the defence of Vancouver with his pace and trickery while also helping defensively.
Ali Ahmed opened the scoring for the MLS side after just five minutes before Germany legend Thomas Muller doubled the advantage five minutes later from the spot following a quick start.
Twenty-five minutes later Thierno Bah struck to reduce the deficit but the lead lasted just a minute after Ahmed responded immediately with his second of the match.
After the break, Ryan Gauld put the game beyond Vancouver FC with Whitecaps' four in the 83rd minute.
Nicolas Mezquida reduced the deficit but Vancouver did not have enough firepower to fightback.
Sabbi, who was born in Italy and represented the United States at the youth level, remains eligible to play for Ghana through his parents heritage.
