Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has called for attention to be placed on the Black Stars’ final two 2026 World Cup qualifiers rather than ongoing debates about the future of head coach Otto Addo.
Addo has announced a 24-man squad for the decisive fixtures against the Central African Republic and Comoros this month.
However, his long-term role has been a point of contention following Ghana’s stuttering 1-1 draw with Chad in September and continued doubts expressed by Sports Minister Kofi Adams.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Agyemang Badu stressed that Addo deserves the space to complete the job before conversations about his future begin.
“I’m not the one who appointed him, but every work each person is doing, they want to succeed. The coach too wants to succeed in his work with the Black Stars,” he said.
“I don’t think the stats show that he has done badly. There is more room for improvement. Let’s wait and play the two matches. There’s more time to deliberate on his future after.”
The Black Stars currently lead Group I with 19 points and require four more to secure their ticket to the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Ghana face Central African Republic on October 8 at Stade d'Honneur de Meknes before returning to Accra to host Comoros on October 12 in their final group game.
A fifth World Cup appearance remains firmly within Ghana’s grasp.
