Prosper Kassim delivered the decisive moment as Union Omaha edged Portland Hearts of Pine 1-0 in their USL League One opener at Werner Park.
The Ghanaian forward struck in the 47th minute, finishing a fine cross from Charlie Ostrem with a calm left-footed shot into the center of the net. It was a reward for Union Omaha’s dominance after a goalless first half where they controlled possession but lacked cutting edge.
Kassim, who started and played the full game, was lively throughout and kept the Omaha supporters on their feet. His energy and composure proved the difference on a night when Portland Hearts of Pine struggled to create clear chances. The visitors failed to register a single shot on target, showing just how difficult Omaha’s defense made it for them.
Union Omaha enjoyed 64 percent possession, fired 13 total shots, and were well worth the victory. Kassim has now scored three goals and provided two assists in 18 league games this season.
The Owls next travel to face FC Naples on October 5, aiming to build on this strong start.
