Stella Nyamekye opened a new chapter in her career with her maiden goal for Fort Lauderdale United, marking a memorable night in their USL Super League clash against Brooklyn FC.
The Ghanaian forward made her mark in the 9th minute after a lively start by her side. Jasmine Hamid won possession deep in Brooklyn FC’s half and slipped a pass to Locklear, who was fouled just outside the box. Nyamekye took responsibility for the set piece and unleashed a thunderous drive into the top corner, sending the home bench into wild celebrations.
She nearly turned provider 20 minutes later with a perfectly weighted ball for Hamid, whose far-post strike rattled the woodwork. Fort Lauderdale added a second before the break when Lily Nabet threaded a through ball to Locklear, who calmly slotted past the keeper.
Brooklyn reduced the deficit late in the match, scoring from a corner in the 87th minute. Nyamekye was replaced in stoppage time by Kat González as Fort Lauderdale held on for a deserved win.
The team next travels to face Tampa Bay Sun FC on October 4.
