Karela United began the new campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale on Sunday afternoon.
The decisive moment came inside the opening minute when Malik Abubakar struck to give Karela the perfect start. Despite creating further chances, the Pride and Passion side were unable to extend their lead, and had to dig deep to protect their slender advantage.
Head coach Nurudeen Amadu, who is keen to steer the club away from their recent battles with relegation, will take encouragement from his team’s resilience as they set sights on a more positive season.
Aduana, led by Romanian trainer Cioba Aristica, struggled to recover from the early setback and rarely threatened to turn the game around. The defeat leaves them with work to do ahead of their first home fixture next weekend.
Karela will now turn their attention to an away trip against Samartex, while Aduana return to Dormaa to host Nations FC at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.
