
Ebenezer Abban's first half penalty secured an important opening day victory for Heart of Lions in their Ghana Premier League encounter with Dreams FC in Kpando.
The Heart of Lions captain converted from the spot in the first half as Lions collected all three points in a pulsating battle.
The hosts started off brightly with Bismark Anim forcing a corner kick early in the match after his effort was turned away by a Dreams FC defender.
Dreams FC responded at the other side a minute later with defender Yaw Danso rescuing Heart of Lions with a goal-line clearance to set off a counter attack.
Samuel Boamah Quansah tested Dreams FC goalie Gideos Aseako with a ferocious strike but the Ghana U20 goalie was equal to the task.
Halfway into the first half, the hosts were awarded a penalty following a foul in the box, Abban elected himself for the spot kick and made no mistake from 12 yards.
Liberian forward Chauncy Freeman came close before Quansah again pulled a save from Aseako.
After the break, Dreams FC lifted their game as they chased an equalizer, pinning the hosts back as they controlled possesion.
However, Lions looked dangerous on the break following a series of changes in the second half with coach Bashiru Hayford introducing Michael Ephson late in the match.
The hosts held on to seal victory on the opening day of the new campaign.
