FC Lorient have received a major boost with the return of Ghanaian defender Nathaniel Adjei, who has resumed first-team training after nearly a year out with an ankle injury.
Adjei sustained the setback on his senior debut for the Black Stars, forced off during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger on November 18, 2024.
A subsequent surgery in December became a necessary step in his long road to recovery.
The 23-year-old endured a difficult spell, spending months in rehabilitation and undergoing an intensive recovery program.
His absence was keenly felt, not only in Lorient’s backline but also in the dressing room, where his leadership and energy had become vital.
Last week, Adjei’s teammates welcomed him back onto the training pitch with smiles, applause, and encouraging words, underlining their delight at his return.
Head coach Olivier Pantaloni hailed the defender’s resilience, calling him “an example for the group.”
Adjei’s comeback offers a timely morale lift for Lorient, who are still searching for stability in Ligue 1 after a turbulent start to the campaign.
The centre-back initially joined Lorient on loan from Hammarby in January 2024, making 15 Ligue 1 appearances before the club secured his permanent transfer in the summer for a reported â¬7 million.
