Africa’s leading platform for youth and women in climate leadership, the Africa Women and Children Conference (AFRIWOCC), has announced the return of its second edition, scheduled for October 6–7, 2025.
The event which will be held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra is themed “Young Voices, Innovative Ideas, Greater Impact for Africa.” It will build on the success of its 2023 debut, which attracted high-level participation from African leaders, global partners and grassroots movements.
The 2025 conference is expected to host more than 500 delegates from government institutions, civil society, academic bodies, development organisations and climate-focused groups across Africa and the diaspora.
Launched in 2023 by the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP), AFRIWOCC has quickly grown from a policy forum into a year-round platform advancing inclusive climate action.
Its maiden edition, under the theme “Amplifying the Voices of Women and Children in Climate Action,” featured former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Samira Bawumia, former Second Lady ; Monica Geingos, First Lady of Namibia; and Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, former President of the African Development Bank.
That inaugural event concluded with a six-point communique, which championed gender-responsive and youth-inclusive policies, adaptation financing and community resilience strategies. Since then, AFRIWOCC has earned continental recognition as a convening force for climate solutions that place women, children and vulnerable groups at the centre.
While Africa contributes less than 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the continent bears a disproportionate burden of climate impacts. Floods, desertification, rising sea levels and droughts continue to threaten livelihoods and food security with women and children often the most affected.
Ghana itself has faced recent flash floods, coastal erosion and erratic rainfall that have displaced communities and disrupted agriculture. Against this backdrop, AFRIWOCC 2025 aims to provide both a policy platform and an incubator for practical solutions.
Highlights of the conference will include panels on climate financing, Africa’s COP strategies, and intergenerational policy development; showcases of youth and women-led innovations; thematic workshops on green jobs, adolescent health and gender-smart infrastructure; and a high-level AFRIWOCC Pledge Board to mobilise commitments for inclusive climate action.
The 2025 conference will feature influential voices driving Africa’s climate and development agenda. Among them are H.E. Ramatoulaye Diallo N’diay of the Great Green Wall of Africa and H.E. Wamkele Mene of the AfCFTA Secretariat as keynote speakers, alongside special guests Tenioye Majekodunni and Damilola Ogunbiyi, both championing climate resilience and sustainable energy. A special concert will also be staged to engage participants and the wider public.
AFRIWOCC 2025 is open to African youth leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, grassroots organisations, private sector actors, development partners and global climate advocates. Registration details, along with opportunities for research papers, exhibitions and sponsorships are available at www.afriwocc.org.
