Simba Holidays, a fast-growing travel and tour agency, has joined forces with the Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to celebrate World Tourism Day 2025.
This year’s celebration, themed “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” aims to highlight the pivotal role of tourism in fostering cultural diversity and sustainable practices.
The festivities kicked off in Accra with a tree-planting exercise, symbolising the commitment to environmental stewardship, followed by an engaging tour of the Accra Zoo.
CEO of Simba Holidays, Samson Afordofe, highlighted that the initiative reflects his outfit’s recognition of tourism as a powerful catalyst for sustainable transformation.
He expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Together, we aim to contribute to a future where travel not only explores the world but helps protect it too. We are happy about this collaboration and excited about the opportunity to contribute to sustainable tourism.”
Mr. Afordofe further emphasised that the commemoration extends beyond mere tree planting; it is a commitment to making travel an everyday activity while reinforcing their alliance with the Ghana Tourism Authority.
The event drew stakeholders from the tourism industry and students, creating a vibrant atmosphere that underscored the sustainable tourism agenda.
Greater Accra Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Roberta Dawson Amoah, highlighted the significance of this year’s theme, noting that the national celebration will take place in Ho, Volta Region, but the Greater Accra Directorate is celebrating locally with a focus on responsible stewardship of natural resources.
“Natural resources play a pivotal role in tourism development, and we are advocating for sustainable tourism by promoting responsible stewardship of the environment,” she stated.
Mrs. Amoah highlighted that the GTA’s mandate includes regulating the tourism industry in Ghana and supervising its sustainable development, making this celebration an essential step in fulfilling their responsibilities.
She further pointed out the importance of minimising environmental footprints while enjoying eco-tourism sites, urging participants to preserve natural resources for future generations.
As part of the GTA’s commitment to sustainability, it has ensured that no plastic water bottles were used during the event and even donated a trash can to the Accra Zoo to reinforce their environmental commitment.
Samson Afordofe further explained the rationale behind Simba Holidays’ involvement, stating that forging strong relations with regulators is crucial for sustainable tourism. “Tourism must be sustained, and this partnership is one of the practical ways any agency can demonstrate that pledge,” he said.
