The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will represent Ghana at the 7th African Union (AU) – European Union (EU) Summit in Luanda, Angola, scheduled for November 24 to 25, 2025.
She would stand in for President John Dramani Mahama and is expected to present Ghana’s national statement to an audience that includes Heads of State, AU and EU leaders, and global development partners.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Vice President, Maame Ama Pratt.
The Vice President’s address, she said, would reaffirm Ghana’s willingness to engage in equitable partnerships that promote shared prosperity and reflect mutual respect between Africa and Europe.
She said the Vice President was expected to emphasise the need for a fairer and more inclusive global governance system, one that allowed African countries greater influence in shaping decisions that affect the continent.
“The Vice-President would outline Ghana’s priorities in strengthening economic stability, expanding opportunities for job creation, and deepening investments in food security,” the Press Secretary to the Vice President stated.
Maame Pratt indicated that climate action, peace and security, as well as value-chain transformation in key productive sectors, particularly agriculture and cocoa, would also feature prominently in the Vice President’s remarks.
“The Vice President will highlight ongoing efforts to modernise agriculture and increase local processing of cocoa as part of a wider strategy to secure better returns for farmers and move the country further up the global value chain,” the Press Secretary stated, adding that “Professor Opoku-Agyemang would share progress on Ghana’s economic recovery and structural reforms.”
That, she said, included the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy initiative, which aims to boost productivity and create jobs by encouraging businesses to operate around the clock.
The Press Secretary indicated that the Vice President would touch on ongoing measures to improve infrastructure development under the Big Push Initiative, which targets transport, energy, and digital infrastructure as engines for long-term growth.
She further said some of the key messages of the Vice President would focus on agricultural financing and the need to strengthen support systems for farmers and agribusinesses so they can withstand global shocks and contribute more meaningfully to national growth.
The Vice-President will also reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to gender inclusion and women’s empowerment, with particular reference to the forthcoming Women’s Development Bank, saying the new institution was expected to expand access to credit for women, support female-led enterprises, and advance women’s participation in national development.
Maame Pratt said the Vice President’s attendance at the summit underscored Ghana’s commitment to constructive dialogue and cooperation with international partners.
Ghana is expected to join other African countries in calling for deeper collaboration in tackling shared challenges such as climate change, migration, global inequality, and peace and security threats.
The summit also provides an opportunity for Ghana to advocate for fairer trade arrangements and more targeted investment in African industries to support sustainable economic transformation.
