The Street Academy, a sports and culture oranisation in Accra, on Monday held an Easter picnic for hundreds of children at its premises in Accra.
It drew underprivileged children from the neighbouring communities who joined up with children of the Academy as a way of climaxing the Easter festivities.
They were fete by management of the Academy, after which they engaged in fun-filled activities.
In attendance were public spirited individuals such as former MUSIGHA President, Diana Hopeson; Ms Nunnette Atuahene, a US based Business Development Consultant, Coach and Mentor, Brigadier Gen. (Rtd) Solomon Osabutey and many others that showed solidarity with the academy.
Ataa Lartey, the Director of the Academy, said the occasion was to give the children a feel of the festivities.
“It is a moment for them to relax and have fun, and be part of the Easter celebration. It’s been work in the classroom as well as sports and cultural activities,” he said.
Speaking to the media, Ms Atuahene, who described herself as a supporter and friend of Street Academy, commended the management of the academy for the life it has offered to the young children.
“I am here because Mr Lartey has shown love for Ghanaian youth through this organisation for over 40 years. I have watched his vision for Street Academy coming to life and expanding even more. Mr Lartey is dedicated, passionate and committed to the youth unconditionally, and I am for this totally,” she stated.
Ms Atuahene is also the Co-founder for Converge 4 Africa, an agency with a mission is to educate, equip and empower to be economically self-sufficient-through workforce development and business capacity building.
Ms Antoinette Melvin, a US based philanthropist who supported the organisation of the event, expressed excitement about it and urged the Academy to make it an annual affair.
She also provided learning and teaching materials to support the upbringing of the less fortunate children under the care of the Street Academy.
