
Two friends have been jailed for three years each by the Asante Abuakwa circuit court for stealing five sliding window frames valued at GH¢2,500.00 at Abuakwa-Abakomadi.
Yaw Paul, 28, driver’s mate, and Stephen Boakye, alias ‘Destiny’ 23, mechanic apprentice, pleaded guilty and were convicted on their own plea.
Police Chief Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisah, prosecuting, told the court, presided by Mr Jephthah Appau, in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, that the accused were friends, who resided at Abuakwa-Maakro.
The prosecution said the complainant, George Osei, was an aluminum fabricator and resident
of Abakomadi.
Chief Insp Ayimbisah revealed that a witness in the case, who was a police personnel on duty at IPT snap check point on the Abuakwa- Kumasi stretch stopped a ‘pragia’ rider with the accused on board.
The prosecution said that the witness observed that five sliding window frames were in the vehicle.
Chief Insp Ayimbisah the policeman suspected that the window frame were stolen, and when he questioned the rider, Isaac Amankwah, about the frame, he said that accused had hired him to transport them to Abrepo junction in Kumasi.
According to the prosecution, when the witness questioned the accused about the window frames, they couldn’t give any tangible answer, so they were taken to the Tanoso police station.
Chief Insp Ayimbisah disclosed that accused confessed to having stolen the items from Abakomadi.
The court heard that accused were taken to the crime scene and the complainant identified the frames and claimed ownership.
Chief Insp Ayimbisah said accused also admitted in their caution statement. –GNA
