Sports Minister calls for corporate support, increased publicity for tennis

 The Minister for Sports and Rec­reation, Mr Kofi Adams, has called for increased cor­porate support for the sport of tennis, emphasising that it is one sure way of growing the sports.

“Public-private partnerships is one sure way to sustain such essen­tial developmental initiatives and I believe the coming on board of more corporate bodies would help in that light.”

The minister made this remark when he attended the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior World Tennis Tour event, held at the Tennis Complex of the Bortey­man Sports Complex, last Saturday.

Accompanied by Ms Veronica Commey, Deputy Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), and Ms Betty Krosbi-Mensah, former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Mr Adams used the occasion to urge the organisers and media houses to enhance publicity efforts for future tournaments, stating that increased awareness will attract larger crowds, create excitement around tennis, and inspire young talents.

The Minister was on hand to present the winner’s trophy for the Men’s Singles category and con­gratulated all the young athletes for their commendable performances and enthusiasm.

Mr Adams used the opportunity to tour the tennis complex, inter­acting with officials and young ath­letes alongside Mr Roger Crawford, CEO and Tournament Director of Tennis Foundation Ghana.

He praised Mr Crawford for his unwavering commitment and sig­nificant contribution to developing junior tennis in Ghana by success­fully organising ITF Junior events since 2018.

The Minister highlighted the importance of such tournaments, which provide an affordable oppor­tunity for young local athletes to earn valuable ranking points and international competitive exposure.
