The Tarkwa District Court One has remanded nine persons in prison custody for allegedly murdering a taxi driver at Akotom in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.
The accused, who made their third appearance in court, would be charged with conspiracy to commit crime and murder.
They are Nana Kwabena Agyarko, 45, Evans Azure alias, Ampana, 40, Peter Kwamena Antwi, 34, Felix Atsu Davor, 38, Sampson Agbodojie, 30, Kojo Bonzy, 72, Stephen Owusu, alias Ko Abanga, 38, Ko Ampabeng, 38, and Lucky Mudoo, 30.
The plea of accused were not taken, and they are expected to re-appear in court on Monday, March 3, 2025.
Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Enoch Assan Donkor told the court that the complainant was a businessman, who resided at Huniso, and the deceased, Kwadwo Donkor, alias ‘Chilling’, was his employee.
The prosecution said Azure resided at a Camp, near Tarkwa, and the rest were residents of Akotom.
Sgt Donkor told the court, presided by Mr Charles Owusu Nsiah, that on November 8, 2024, the deceased left home with his taxi for work, but did not return.
The complainant made several attempts to reach the driver, but it all proved futile, so he reported the matter to the police.
Sgt Donkor revealed that while investigations were ongoing, the police had a tip-off that Sheriffa, a suspect in the case, and currently on the run, sighted
the deceased at Akotom near her husband’s car and without any justification, raised the alarm that he was a thief.
The prosecution said Sheriffa’s action attracted the accused and some youth in the community, who were currently at large to the scene.
Sgt Donkor said accused accosted the deceased and Azure joined them and provided a rope and they tied the victim against a nearby electric pole.
The court heard that accused and their accomplices assaulted the deceased with all kinds of objects, which allegedly led to his death.
Sgt Donkor stated that when accused realised Donkor had passed on, they placed the body in a tricycle and dumped it in a nearby bush along the Tarkwa Bogoso Highway near the Akotom community.
The court heard that Agyarko, who was arrested to assist police in investigations denied the crime, but later confessed and mentioned Antwi and others at large as his counterparts.
Sgt Donkor noted that Agyarko led the police to the bush and he identified the exact place they hid the body, and it was retrieved.
The court heard that when the police arrested Azure, he said Antwi and Davor were also involved in the crime, and both were apprehended from their hideout.
Sgt Donkor said the police arrested the other accused, adding that a duplicate docket on the case has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office at Sekondi for study and advice —GNA
