President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to organise the National Education Forum.
The constitution of the committee is in fulfillment of the President’s campaign pledge to the people to organise a national education forum to review Ghana’s education systems.
Chaired by a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K. T. Oduro, the Committee has two weeks to submit its report and plan.
Other members of the Committee are Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr Samuel Awuku, and Professor Smile Dzisi.
The rest are Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu and Inusah Shiraz.
A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, stated that the Committee is to develop a theme and sub-themes to guide the stakeholder engagement.
It would be expected to Identify key stakeholders in the education sector, including students, parents, teachers, researchers, civil society organisations, development partners, religious bodies, political parties, Ghanaian educational researchers in the diaspora, chiefs, heads of educational institutions and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to be invited as participants.
The Committee, the statement said, is to develop a stakeholder activity agenda with time allocations and propose a venue and date for the forum, set up a secretariat to document activities and provide a budget for the conference.
According to the statement, the Committee is to develop a comprehensive report detailing the findings and recommendations of the Forum, draft a national education policy framework and propose an action plan for implementation within three weeks after the Forum and consider any other issue relevant to the organise the Forum.
