The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga, Isaac Adongo, has called on the youth in Bolgatanga and the Upper East at large to vote massively for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said the party had a strong job creation agenda for the youth in the country, and most of them in the Bolgatanga Central would benefit from the millions of jobs that would be created if the NDC was voted into power.
“I am part of the NDC manifesto committee, and I know what the party has for the youth when it comes to power. It’s mouthwatering, juicy, to say the least.
“I want to assure you (the youth) in Bolgatanga Municipality that most of you will get dignified jobs when former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC return to power,” Mr Adongo stated.
He added that the party would consider rolling out an apprenticeship programme for the dropouts to undergo training to better their lots.
Mr Adongo made these remarks when he inspected the construction of a maternity block at Kalbeo in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.
According to him, he took up the challenge to construct the facility after he received a damning report from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) that the community had recorded nearly 260 unsafe abortions every year.
The issue, he said, had contributed to the rise in maternal mortality in the municipal, and he would continue to prioritise the execution of health-related projects to reduce the phenomenon.
A similar project, according to him, had been undertaken and completed in other communities, including Yokoko and Tindonsobligo.
Mr Adongo said he was optimistic the projects would be equipped and handed over to the beneficiary communities for use before the end of 2024.
The two-term legislator who is seeking a re-election, also disclosed that he was going to secure 15 grinding mills for some disadvantaged communities in the municipality, and asked the women to take advantage of the project.
The lawmaker touted the development projects executed under his stewardship, and asked voters in the constituency to endorse him at the polls to continue massing up more development projects for the progress of the municipality.
He said he had outperformed the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in terms of infrastructure development, and that, a vote for the NPP would be a vote for “retrogression”.
He chastised government for abandoning the rural electrification project in some communities since it assumed power in 2017.
The erstwhile Mahama-led NDC administration secured 11 million dollar loan facility from the Korean government to complete the rural electrification in 2016.
But Mr Adongo in an interview with The Ghanaian Times on the sidelines of the inspection of the maternity block project at Kalbeo, accused the government of the NPP of deliberately refusing to continue with the prosecution of the project.
“And I want you to vote for the flag bearer of the NDC, Mr Mahama to come to power so he revisits the execution of projects initiated in his first term which had been refused attention by the current government,” said Mr Adongo.
Former Bolgatanga Central Constituency Secretary for the NDC, Roland Ayoo, rallied support for the NDC, emphasising the NPP had demonstrated it had no plan for the people of the municipal in all areas of national life.
According to him, the sustained antics against the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Mahama, would not survive in this year’s election, and that, no amount of ‘vote buying’ could keep the governing party in power
