Plan International educates journalists on its activities

A 3-day train­ing workshop for journalists from Bono, North East, Greater Accra, Oti, Northern and the Volta regions on the activities of Plan International Ghana has started in Accra.

The workshop, which aimed at educating journalists on proj­ects and activities of Plan In­ternational Ghana for the past 30 years was under the theme: “Amplifying impact: Showcas­ing innovation and progress in our projects”, is being attended by 22 participants.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Country Director of Plan International Ghana, Mr Constant Tchona, said the media played crucial role in development particularly in the activities of his outfit; therefore it was important to educate the media to be able to report on Plan International activities accurately.

Mr Tchona said Plan Interna­tional Ghana as an independent development and humanitarian organisation, advocates chil­dren’s rights and equality for girls and has been working in Ghana to support children par­ticularly the most marginalised, to exercise their rights over the years.

According to him, Plan Inter­national has been implementing programmes and influencing participants in the northern and southern parts of the country, which should be effectively and accurately publicised.

Mr Tchona said Plan Inter­national Ghana had improved on the effectiveness of child sponsorship in the most dis­advantaged communities and mobilised resources through grant funding to reach other marginalised communities.

The Country Director con­tinued that Plan International Ghana derived changes in prac­tice and policy using research, experience and knowledge to influence national policy makers as well as traditional influencers to facilitate the needed develop­ment in the county.

Mr Tchona said working together with children, young people, supporters and partners make Plan International thrive for a just world, tackled the root causes of the challenges girls and the vulnerable children face and found solution to such challenges in the country.

He stressed that Plan Inter­national Ghana would continue to work hard in identifying chal­lenges girls and the vulnerable in society face until all become equal to ensure that equal op­portunities are created for all.

Mr Tchona said creating safe communities for children would be free from all forms of violence, ensuring that children had the opportunity to learn through quality basic education.
